My week of work experience here at Velocity has flown by, but I feel it has been very useful and enjoyable. I arrived as just a 16 year old student from Surbiton High, with little knowledge of the marketing world, however now I feel I have the beginning of a good b2b marketing understanding.
I was lucky enough to have been given different tasks each day, not just to make tea and coffee like other interns may have had to…
On day one I was welcomed by the lovely team, and straight into some design work with Stuart. He helped me navigate my way around some of the design programmes he uses such as PhotoShop and Illustrator, to help design a new e-mail footer logo. It was difficult at first, but as I gained experience with the programmes, I got the hang of it, and it was fun.
Doug and I went up to London for a voice over session for a video Velocity is producing for a client. It was very interesting to see how the end product turns out, when all the different clips and takes are put together, to make a smooth sounding end result. It was amazing how the sound guy could edit out tiny background noises so quickly and easily.
Neil showed me how social media in marketing is clearly very important to many businesses nowadays. Also, how the use of technology has made this much easier; through the use of twitter, facebook and blogs.
I have also seen how presenting information can make a significant difference, such as an eBook, instead of pages of writing.
Overall this has been a valuable week, and I will take many things away with me from the design elements to the writing. Thank you Velocity!
